But my God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus. Philippians 4:19

This precious promise of God reveals His great desire to be the only source for our material, physical and spiritual needs. No Christian should ever beg for bread with an assurance like this in the Bible. We dishonor the Lord when we fret over a legitimate need and will not trust Him to supply what He has promised! Someone said, “The Lord is delighted as He fulfills His Word as His people trust Him!”

Evan Hopkins in his devotional book “Broken Bread” expounds this glorious truth of Philippians 4:19, “The apostle leads the Philippian converts at once to the fountain of all blessing. ‘My God’ – how great and glorious and all-sufficient God was to him! It is He who shall look after them who had so lovingly been thinking of his necessities and ministering to his wants. He shall fill them all to the full. Let your need be as the empty vessel which is brought to the fountain to be filled. The greater your need, the larger the vessel, the deeper the capacity, and the richer and fuller the blessing. And this He will do – not simply out of His riches or glory, but according to riches. This would indicate the source only, but the latter shows us the measure of the supply. It was in dependence on such a God that the apostle lived. He spoke of himself ‘as nothing, and yet possessing all things.’

May we look unto Jesus and trust Him to be our total sufficiency!
